Network interconnection with participation constraints
This paper builds on the existing literature on telecommunications interconnection with non-linear pricing and heterogeneous agents, by explicitly taking into account consumers’ participation decision. This single change leads to dramatically different conclusions regarding the scope for collusion by interconnecting networks.
متن کاملNetwork interconnection with competitive transit
We examine the interaction between two interconnected networks (e.g., two local exchange carriers (LECs)) and a third network (e.g., an interexchange carrier (IXC)) seeking access to their customer base. The IXC could either interconnect with both LECs or interconnect with only one LEC and transit calls to the other LEC via the first LEC s network. We show that there is a wide set of cases in w...
متن کاملNetwork Interconnection with Two-Sided User Benefits
Previous work on network interconnection has tended to overlook that both the sender and receiver of an electronic message take actions, bear costs, and derive benefits from the message exchange. In a simple model with two-sided benefits and fixed network architectures, we find that the socially optimal interconnection charge is independent of the “direction” of the message and is used to induc...
متن کاملNetwork Competition and Interconnection with Heterogeneous Subscribers
This paper analyses two-way access pricing in a telecommunications market where consumers are heterogeneous in their demand for calls and firms are allowed to use nonlinear tariffs. We first investigate how the presence of access charges affects the tariffs offered by firms in symmetric equilibrium. Next we show that under certain conditions each firm’s profit is independent of the level of (re...
متن کاملIncreasing Interconnection Network Throughput with Virtual Channels
Interconnection networks form the backbone of scalable computer systems, including high-performance computers and datacenters. High-performance networks must provide high throughput and bandwidth while delivering messages with minimal latency. As processors that connect to the network inject more messages, the network load rises and can cause two potential deleterious conditions: network deadlo...
